CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police say 39-year-old Joseph D. Clopton of Carbondale has been charged with Domestic Battery, Endangering the Life or Health of a Child and Resisting a Police Officer after he battered an acquaintance and then barricaded himself inside an apartment with his infant child in the 400 block of South Poplar Street around 1:40 Thursday morning.
Officers secured the area and began negotiations for Clopton to surrender himself peacefully. They also got a search warrant to enter the apartment. Police negotiated with Clopton for several hours outside the apartment.
Clopton surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident around 7:45 a.m. The infant was not injured and was turned over to the mother.
Clopton was then charged with his offenses and taken to the Jackson County Jail pending possible detention.
