PITTSBURG – A vehicle fire Monday morning in Williamson County caused a road to be temporarily shut down.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the fire in the 13000 block of Pittsburg Road around 6:45 a.m.

The driver told deputies he began to smell smoke resembling an electrical fire and pulled over to the side of the roadway. The vehicle, a 2014 Ford Escape, then began to smoke from under the hood and flames erupted from the engine compartment. He was able to get out of the vehicle safely before it became fully engulfed in flames.

Williamson County Fire arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

Water used to extinguish the fire subsequently covered the roadway with ice due to the extreme low temperatures causing an impassable road condition.

Williamson County Highway Department personnel arrived on scene and cleared the ice allowing the roadway to reopen.
